Disgruntled Crew in Star Trek: Outposts Unknown

Inspect the individual crew member's negative effects before changing assignments. Matching the building's preferred profession does not explain every source of unhappiness.

Start with the crew member, not the uniform

Open the unhappy crew member’s details and inspect Purpose, Comfort, temperature and other negative effects. Engineering and Security can both wear red, so confirm the actual profession instead of identifying it by uniform colour alone.

Read Optimized for Engineering Crew as the building’s stated optimization. An engineer working at an Alloy Refinery can still have another problem that the profession label does not address.

Separate the causes

What you see What to check
Job or Purpose complaint Actual profession, current assignment and the specific negative effect
Temperature or Comfort complaint Work location, shield coverage and the crew member’s temperature status
Food or rest problem Available food, access to it, and rest arrangements
Low morale with several effects Address the visible causes one at a time

Check the relevant decoration tooltip before placing it for a particular bonus. More decoration is not automatically a fix for a complaint about the assigned job.

Check shields without assuming they fix the job

A Shield Emitter can help protect the working area and maintain comfort. Check whether the crew member is actually inside its coverage and whether the relevant temperature effect changes.

If the complaint remains specifically about the task after the profession and comfort checks, do not assume the Alloy Refinery label is wrong. A restart or a new save is not a dependable remedy for this particular complaint.
