How to Make Food in Star Trek: Outposts Unknown

Produce Food Proteins at a Biomass Synthesizer, then send them through the Cargo Landing Pad to the ship. Producing food on the surface is only half the chain.

The basic food chain

Biomass → Biomass Synthesizer → Food Proteins → Cargo Landing Pad → ship food reserves

At the Biomass Synthesizer, enable Isolate Bio Proteins under Resource Output. Supply Biomass, keep the facility powered and assign workers to the active shift.

When basic food is running short, concentrate on the protein recipe rather than spreading work across recipes you do not currently need. “Optimized for Engineering Crew” describes an optimization; it does not mean every slot can only be filled by an engineer.

Send proteins up to the ship

Open the Cargo Landing Pad, then use Storage / Manage Shipment.

  1. Find Food Proteins in the Outpost inventory.
  2. Choose the quantity to transfer.
  3. Check that the direction is Outpost → Ship.
  4. Apply the shipment and keep crew available to carry it out.
  5. Check the ship’s actual protein stock and Estimated Days of Food after delivery.

Protein sitting on the ground does not yet count as the U.S.S. Resonant’s food reserve.

Check automatic replenishment

Set a non-zero Food Proteins requirement in the ship’s Mess Hall. If automatic hauling does not start, try staffing both Cargo Shuttle Pad slots during the same shift so crew are available for hauling as well as manual shipments.

Capacity is a target, not current stock. Raising a capacity value does not create food. Follow three separate signals: surface production, cargo movement, and the ship’s food inventory.

Do you need a Planetary Kitchen first?

No. Basic Food Proteins can replenish ship supplies without first being made into higher-quality meals. The early supply-chain task uses the Biomass Synthesizer and Cargo Landing Pad, with power and crew.

The Planetary Kitchen belongs to later meal processing. The Mess Hall displays inventory and requirements; it is not the ground facility’s manufacturing queue.

Food exists, but crew still will not eat

Treat consumption and production as different problems. Update 1.0.3 fixed a case where crew would not eat when the ship had only high-quality food. Update 1.0.1 also addressed stuck deliveries between the Cargo Landing Pad and Planetary Kitchen.

If the ship already has food, inspect the relevant consumption or delivery problem before building another synthesizer.
